With the recent appointment of Hannah Gay Keao to City Council, the City of Edgewater has an opening for the Social Vibrancy lead on the Sustainability Board. Thanks to Hannah for her work on the Board and continued service to our community!
About the Sustainability Board
Shortly after the Edgewater Sustainability Plan was adopted in 2019, the board was created to assist in the implementation of the plan. The plan is broken out into four categories: Land & Water, Waste & Materials, Energy, and Social Vibrancy. The six-member board, led by Chair Lilly Steirer, has a designated leader in each category as well as an alternate. The Social Vibrancy lead works with local businesses, residents, and community members to foster a culture of economic, social, and environmental success for all parties. The Sustainability Board meets on the fourth Tuesday of every month at 6:00 p.m.
Sustainability Successes
Since the creation of the Board, Edgewater has seen an acceleration of sustainability progress including:
- Creation of a citywide residential Composting Program, which includes both food waste and yard waste pickup
- Completion of an Energy Action Plan with Xcel, which will help the City meet its energy efficiency and renewable energy goals
- Conversion of City streetlights to LEDs
- Purchase of the City fleet’s first electric vehicle
- Creation of a partnership that will allow residents to obtain subsidized energy audits later this year
