Progress on Edgewater Traffic Calming Mobility Plan Projects

A raised intersection at 25th Avenue and Gray Street is nearing completion.

In 2019 the City of Edgewater released its Edgewater Traffic Calming Mobility Plan to make Edgewater’s streets safer and more people-friendly. Initial first steps were additions of raised crosswalks on Pierce Street between Lumberg Elementary School and Jefferson Junior/Senior High School. Early in the pandemic, the City of Edgewater also made 25th Avenue a one-way, westbound street from Sheridan Boulevard to Benton Street.

Over the last couple of months, progress has been made on the next two projects in this plan.

A raised intersection is nearing completion at 25th Avenue and Gray Street. This will create a safer pathway to the redevelopment of the “Edgewater Town Square” on the northeast corner. This redevelopment will include the Edgewater Beer Garden in the old Edgewater Fire Department building and Playa Bowls in the former Edgewater Public Library building.

Work also continues on a roundabout at 20th Avenue and Harlan Street to create a safer route for walkers and rollers to the Edgewater Civic Center and Walker Branch Park. The roundabout should be completed by the end of December.
