Bringing Home the Medal: Silver for Joyride Brewing at Great American Beer Festival

Edgewater’s own Joyride Brewing Company added to their medal hardware collection with another big win at this year’s Great American Beer Festival (GABF). Joyride took home the silver medal in the American Fruit Beer category with their Black Razz Blonde.

Joyride co-founder and director of brewing Dave Bergen reflected on the win, “I’m so proud of our brew team for another well deserved award. This win was special for me for a few reasons. This is one of our oldest recipes, we homebrewed this before the brewery opened and officially brewed it commercially for the first time in April of ‘15. This beer was inspired by spending time with my grandparents in northern Wisconsin while growing up and picking wild blackberries and raspberries. There was a world-wide berry shortage this year so we weren’t even sure we were going to make this beer this year, which would’ve been unfortunate because it’s one of our most popular.”

According to GABF, “The Great American Beer Festival invites industry professionals from around the world to sit together in small groups and, without knowing the brand name, taste beers in each specified style category. The ultimate goal of the Great American Beer Festival Judge Panel is to identify the three beers that best represent each beer-style category as described and adopted by the Great American Beer Festival. Judges are assigned beers to evaluate in their specific area of expertise and never judge their own product or any product in which they have a concern.”

This is the second GABF medal for Joyride Brewing. They took silver in 2019 for their Ice Cutter Kölsch in the German-Style Koelsch category.
