Jefferson County Public Health — Working to make Edgewater a safer, healthier place

By Nicole Boyer, Public Affairs Coordinator, Jefferson County Public Health

When you think about what Jefferson County Public Health (JCPH) does, what comes to mind? What exactly does a health department do? Perhaps you think of restaurant inspections, or preventing illnesses spread by animals. Maybe you think of sexual health services, like pregnancy prevention or STI testing. Or is your first thought about vaccinations, and COVID-19 response and prevention?

JCPH does all of this and more. As your local health department, our ultimate goal is to promote and protect health for all people through prevention, education, treatment, response and regulation, and to work in collaboration with members of our community to help make Jeffco – and all of its municipalities – healthier communities that are more resilient, safe and thriving.

Public health is both a science and an art, bringing community together through resources, education and collaboration. Our philosophy at JCPH is that we will purposefully serve and engage the community to address public health needs to achieve the vision of Healthy People, Healthy Places. All people have the right to live their healthiest lives possible. There are countless resources that people from all walks of life can utilize at JCPH. No matter if you are a parent of young children looking for community, a new Coloradan preparing for an unpredictable winter or a homeowner looking to keep your house safe and well-maintained, JCPH has services for you.

We are dedicated to building trust and relationships with the people we serve, and this column is a new way for you, as members of the Edgewater community, to connect with your JCPH team. Public health is for everyone, and we want to connect you with the programs that can improve your life.
