This April: W 22nd to become one-way as part of a pop-up demonstration project!
Positive changes are coming to the pickup and drop-off line! Positive changes are coming for people living and traveling near Lumberg Elementary! Starting in April there will be a pop-up demonstration at Lumberg Elementary for several weeks as part of the Edgewater School Transportation Plan. The goal is to improve safety, traffic flow, and the time it takes for parents and guardians to pick up and drop off their children at school. For this pop-up, temporary infrastructure and signage will be used to trial changes to the flow of traffic near Lumberg Elementary.
The pop-up will include:
- Transforming 22nd Avenue into a one-way street from Newland Street to Pierce Street.
- Creating a student “hug and go” pick up and drop off procedure at the curb in the school parking lot off 22nd With “hug and go”, parents and guardians remain in the car when dropping off and picking up their children. School staff are available to collect parent or guardian names, open passenger-side car doors, greet the students, and walk with them to and from the school entrance.
- Prohibiting the lefthand turn from Pierce Street onto 22nd Avenue by adding temporary infrastructure to prevent this left turn.
- Removing the crosswalk on 22nd Avenue at the alleyway between Pierce Street and Otis Street. This will encourage a steady flow of traffic and keep students safe by encouraging them to cross 22nd Ave at Pierce Street where there is a crossing guard.
During the pop-up, there will be yard signs near Lumberg with a QR code to a feedback form so that you can share your thoughts! You can also visit the project website directly to provide feedback on the pop-up. You can add your comments to the map and answer specific questions about some proposed changes. Your feedback is very important and appreciated during this trial phase!

Cambios positivos vienen a la línea de recogida y dejada! Están llegando cambios positivos para las personas que viven y viajan cerca de la primaria Lumberg! Comenzando en Abril habrá una demostración de un pop-up en la Primaria Lumberg durante varias semanas como parte del Plan de Transporte Escolar de Edgewater. - Creando un procedimiento de “abrazo y adiós” (hug and go) para recoger y dejar estudiantes en la acera del estacionamiento de la escuela en la Avenida 22. Con “abrazo y adiós” (hug and go), los padres y tutores permanecen en el auto cuando dejan y recogen a sus hijos. El personal de la escuela está disponible para recopilar los nombres de padres o tutores, abrir las puertas del auto del lado del pasajero, saludar a los estudiantes y caminar con ellos hacia y desde la entrada de la escuela.
- Prohibido girar a la izquierda desde calle Pierce hacia la Avenida 22 añadiendo infraestructura temporal para evitar girar a la izquierda.
- Eliminar el paso de peatones de la Avenida en el callejón entre calle Pierce y calle Otis. Esto fomentara un flujo constante de tráfico y mantendrá seguros a los estudiantes al motivarlos a cruzar la Avenida 22 en la calle Pierce, donde hay un guardia de cruce.
Durante la demostración (pop-up), habrá carteles de patio cerca de Lumberg con un código QR que llevará a un formulario de comentarios para que puedas compartir tus ideas.
