The community is invited to the Día de los Muertos celebration on Saturday, October 26 from 4-7 p.m. at Jefferson Junior/Senior High School (2305 Pierce Street, Edgewater). Edgewater Collective is excited to partner with Latinos in Action from Jefferson Junior/Senior High School and Latina community leaders in designing this event.
The event will feature music, candy, delicious food, community resources, and much more. Together we will remember friends and family as we honor our cultures.
Schedule
4-6 p.m.
- Decorate a sugar skull
- Bring a cultural food dish to share
- Tamale competition for prizes (register at the event)
- Resource tables with community partners
- Learn about Día de los Muertos traditions
- Facepainting
- Loteria
- Take a swing at the piñata
- Make a papel picado craft
- Remember loved ones at the community altar or ofrenda
- Meet the author of The Ofrenda That We Built, Jolene Gutiérrez
6-7 p.m.
- Folkloric dance performance from Edgewater Elementary students
- Catrina costume contest for prizes (register at the event)
