Edgewater City Weekly: April 13, 2018

From the City of Edgewater:

Volunteers Needed for Edgewater Alley Cleanup Day:

Please join us for a community alley cleanup day on Sunday, April 29th. Volunteers will be assigned alleys to cleanup within the City of Edgewater. Please meet at Memorial Park (corner of 25th Ave. and Chase St.) at 2pm on the 29th.

Public Works Department City Clean-Up Event:

The City of Edgewater in conjunction with Republic Services will again be offering the spring clean-up event. Alley way pick-up is scheduled for Monday, April 30th with the dumpster drop off scheduled on Saturday, May 5th. Please visit www.edgewaterco.com for information on what can be picked up or dropped off.

City Trash Service:

Trash and recycling pick-up for City contracted services, through Republic Services, is and will stay on Thursdays. Republic services is changing some pick-up dates for areas around Edgewater, so a few addresses on the borders may receive a post card or a robo-call about a change in service day. Please disregard this if you are receiving trash service through the Edgewater contract (billed on your Edgewater Utility bill).

Meter Reading:

April 16th through the 20th is water meter reading week, being the third full week of the month. City staff will be walking the city going house to house to read water meters. Meter reading staff will have orange vests on with an Edgewater logo and “Meter Reader” on the back. Please be sure to cut back the areas around your water meter sensor. Should you need help locating your water meter sensor, please call 720-763-3005 and someone can be scheduled to help you locate it.

City Clerks Department

New City Council Member: At the April 5, 2018, Council meeting, the Edgewater City Council interviewed 3 applicants to fill the vacant Council seat. All applicants provided very unique qualifications and would be a great asset to the City Council. After a long debate, because of her experience and history in Edgewater, City Council voted to appoint Kara Swanson to fill the vacant seat. Kara was elected and served on City Council from 2015-2018, was a member of the Edgewater Redevelopment Authority from 2008-2011 and again from 2014-2015, and played a big part in the selection of the Civic Center design team. With all the new development happening throughout the City, it is good to know we have a full Council to make the final decisions on these issues.

Parks and Recreation Department

Day of Service: VOLUNTEERS needed! Join us on Saturday, April 28th for the annual Spring Day of Service. Senior TRIP: Our next senior trip takes place on May 17th to the Argo Gold Mine. We will be leaving at 10am and coming back late afternoon. Please register online at www.playedgewater.com or register at the Municipal Building located at 2401 Sheridan Blvd.

Parks: Parks and Recreation staff members are getting into the spring season and in the process of getting all parks cleaned up from the winter. We have aerated all the grassy areas and are continuing to remove weeds from public facilities. A special thanks to Jefferson Junior/Senior High School and their volunteer crew for cleaning up around the parks and City Hall this week.

Reminder to all residents that enjoy our parks with their pets, please clean up after them. We have 3 dog bag stations at Citizen’s Park. One at each sidewalk entrance to the park and one at Memorial Park. Please help us keep all the parks and open spaces clean for everyone to enjoy and be respectful of your neighbors.

Civic Center Construction Video:

With the construction vertical now, both the still time-lapse and the drone flyover are a lot more interesting. Please visit our web site to take a look (www.edgewaterco.com).

Code Enforcement Code Violation Reporting:

Just a reminder that if you see any code issues please contact code enforcement by email at codeenforcement@edgewaterco.com or by phone at 720-459-3297.

Graffiti: It is imperative to take care of graffiti issues as soon as possible. The City of Edgewater has a graffiti removal program for residents. Should a participant in this program have graffiti on their property, the City will either match paint (as close as possible), or use a spray to remove the graffiti. In order to take part in the program you will need to submit a form with a signature from the property owner. To receive a form, please call our code enforcer at 720-459-3297 or pick one up at 2401 Sheridan.

  1. I’m confused. Didn’t Kara Swanson resign from Council earlier this year? Why was she reappointed?
