From Xerxes Steirer:
Please join us for the next Edgewater Sustainability Seminar on September 18th!
Come on down to the library for a discussion and hands-on demonstration of vermicomposting: using worms to compost. If you live in an apartment then vermicomposting might be one of the only options you have for efficiently turning your kitchen waste into the best soil amendment. If you already have backyard compost, vermicompost is also useful as the resulting worm castings are very beneficial for your plants.
Some topics for the night:
* Why compost? Why vermicompost?
* How does it work? What worms and what environment do they like?
* How to “feed” and maintain your worm compost.
* Various ways to use the resulting vermicompost.
* Hands-on demonstration with a “bin” style vermicompost system.
This month’s speaker is Greg Knaddison, a Master Composter with Denver Urban Gardens. While not gardening, he spends all day sitting at a computer building websites.
