Edgewater’s own Joyride Brewing Company took home a coveted medal in the Great American Beer Festival competition this weekend due the hard work of Dave Bergen (Director of Brewing and Marketing) and many others. Joyride Brewing took the Silver Medal in the German-Style Koelsch category with their Ice Cutter Kölsch.

According to the Great American Beer Festival (GABF) competition description:

The ultimate goal of the Great American Beer Festival Judge Panel is to identify the three beers that best represent each beer-style category as described and adopted by the Great American Beer Festival.

The Professional Judge Panel awards gold, silver or bronze medals that are recognized around the world as symbols of brewing excellence. These awards are among the most coveted in the industry and heralded by the winning brewers in their national advertising.

The Ice Cutter Kölsch is one of Joyride’s flagship beers and honors the history of the area. Here’s how Joyride describes the Ice Cutter:

In the winter after Thomas Sloan flooded his farm, he would cut ice from the lake and sell it to local breweries. As most brewers in the day were of German decent, a Kolsch style beer could have been produced. Our Kolsch is a classic interpretation of the style. It’s very smooth and drinkable like a lager, but has a light fruit flavor from ale fermentation. It has moderate levels of bitterness and noble hop flavor and a crisp, dry finish. Nothing pairs better with our lakeside view than our Kolsch.

The Ice Cutter Kölsch is on tap this weekend, so stop on by Joyride, and give their brewing staff a huge fist bump for their hard work!
