Edgewater Police: Unleashed Dogs

From Edgewater Police Chief John Mackey:

I have had several emails recently asking for help with “irresponsible dog owners” or “leash law violations” in which I have passed along an email similar to that below. I don’t want to believe any of our neighbors would want to frighten someone by allowing their dog to walk off leash. Additionally, the kindness demonstrated by a dog owner who respects their neighbor by only allowing their dog to walk while leashed makes for a more collaborative and friendly community which I’m certain we all want to strive for.

Thank you for taking the time to let me know about the issue of neighbors allowing their dogs to roam off leash in the area of XXXX. Yes, I can understand how the unkind behaviors you mentioned with dog owners would certainly put you in a position of feeling unsafe. I have forwarded your message to our patrol officers to provide extra patrol with leash law violations in your neighborhood and remind you that individual violations can be reported via JEFFCOM – 303-980-7300.

Thank you,

John Mackey
