City of Edgewater Wins Grant for 25th Avenue Streetscape Project

A view of the proposed 25th Avenue Streetscape Project from Zehren and Associates

Since 2018, the City of Edgewater has been taking action to create a safer and more walkable community based on the Walkability Plan created by Dan Burden from Blue Zones. Due to the impacts of the pandemic on businesses along 25th Avenue, the City of Edgewater transitioned 25th Avenue to a one-way street from Sheridan Boulevard to Benton Street in June of 2020 to create more outdoor seating. Community and business feedback showed a majority of those that responded hoped that the temporary one-way street design would become permanent.

The Colorado Department of Transportation just announced that the City of Edgewater will receive a Revitalizing Main Street grant of $841,000 for the 25th Avenue Streetscape Project to make these temporary improvements permanent.

Here’s more of the specifics of the project from the grant announcement:

Project: 25th Avenue Streetscape Project

This project will install a chicane (curve in a road used to slow traffic for safety reasons) for traffic calming, an additional protected bike lane, on-street parking, and Festival Streets (option to remove curb).

“Edgewater is so excited to have funding to complete the 25th Ave. Streetscape Project,” said Edgewater City Manager Dan Maples. “This project will revitalize our ‘Main Street’ and assist with bringing back the local economy.”

The Edgewater City Council reviewed the plan and budget for the project at this past Tuesday’s Council meeting. You can see the updated plan and budget here.

Stay tuned for when the project will begin.
