Welcome Back Jefferson Area Students, Staff and Teachers!

This Tuesday marks the beginning of the school year for most students in the Jefferson Area schools around the Edgewater community. Elementary students will start back Tuesday morning at Edgewater Elementary, Lumberg Elementary and Molholm Elementary. Incoming 7th grade and 9th grade students will start on Tuesday at Jefferson Junior/Senior High School with all students returning on Wednesday.

This fall brings a number of changes to school buildings and leadership in Edgewater’s schools. Lumberg and Jefferson have new principal leadership as well as renovated buildings. Principal Lindsay Petty was chosen to lead Lumberg as they continue their exciting Expeditionary Learning focus along with continuing their one-way dual language program. Jefferson Junior/Senior High School also chose a new principal, Jessica Garza, to continue building career pathways and ensuring that students are prepared for college and career. Principal Katherine Chumacero continues to lead Edgewater Elementary as they fully develop their innovative two-way dual language program where students can become bilingual in English and Spanish. Molholm Elementary, just south of Edgewater in Lakewood, hired a new principal, Jim McKenney, to build bridges into the Two Creeks neighborhood and develop a unique vision for Molholm with the school community.

So Tuesday morning, when you are walking, biking or driving around town, keep an eye out for students and families as they head to their first day of school. Smile and wave as you drive slow, so they can safely get to school.
