Edgewater Business Spotlight: Connected Brain Counseling

We love spotlighting new businesses here in our small community of Edgewater. Today we are spotlighting Connected Brain Counseling which is located at 5700 W. 25th Avenue, #200D. Here’s our conversation with Psychotherapist and Neurofeedback Clinician Michela Parisi:

What inspired the launch of Connected Brain Counseling?

As a woman who spent the better half of her twenties in therapy, then pursued a Master’s Degree in Counseling, I have always been passionate about women’s mental health. Therapy changed my life and put me on a healthier path toward healing. During my internship at the end of my graduate career, I learned about neurofeedback and the benefits. For those of you who are not familiar with neurofeedback, it is a way of teaching the brain to self-regulate and alleviate symptoms such as anxiety, depression, PTSD, ADD/ADHD and more without medication. I would incorporate talk therapy skills into the neurofeedback room and saw even more drastic, and lasting, behavioral changes in clients. This inspired me to start my own practice, Connected Brain Counseling, in order to help clients from a multi-modal approach.

What drew you to Edgewater?

I have always loved the feel of a small town while being exposed to the possibilities that a city has to offer. When my partner and I moved to Edgewater last year, I knew this was where I wanted to plant my roots. Edgewater’s community is both welcoming and ideally located so opening our first office here felt natural as well. I have been pleasantly surprised by the warmth of my neighbors, the history of the community and the growth it is experiencing.

What services do you offer?

I am both a licensed therapist for individuals and couples and a licensed neurofeedback clinician. The blend of the two are my speciality, where both data/logic and emotion get to meet in the room at once. Helping the analytical brain understand emotions, and conversely helping the overwhelmed brain reorganize its thoughts is an exciting challenge for me.

What makes your business unique?

Very few therapists are well trained in neuroscience. Unfortunately, most programs and training resources throughout Master’s and PhD program do not combine counseling skills with the level of detail on the brain counselors need. Our practice makes sure clients are understood from a neurological level prior to engaging in treatment programs with a heavy focus on healing for women ages 15 and above.
