The event celebrates the ratification of the 21st Amendment 0n December 5, 1933, which ended Prohibition. Much of Edgewater’s early history as a town revolved around liquor establishments and those in town that wanted to rid the community of alcohol. Three of Edgewater’s first ordinances were meant to regulate saloons and prostitution in town. Edgewater was one of the first towns in Colorado to go “dry” in May 8, 1908.
