Edgewater City Council Recap: March 7, 2023

 

The Edgewater City Council met last Tuesday, March 7th for their bi-monthly business meeting. A quorum was present, with only Council Member Berg absent from the dais.

First on the agenda was updates from City Staff. City Manager Maples gave a brief update, letting the public know that due to demand, the Fitness Center would be open an hour later, until 9 p.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays. Mr. Maples also informed the Council that the city has received a grant from the Denver Regional Council of Government (DRCOG) to study transportation around Edgewater’s two elementary schools.

Next was an update from West Metro Fire Chief Don Lombardi. Chief Lombardi let the council know the West Metro Fire District was awarded “District of the Year” in 2021 by the Special District Association. He also spoke of the District’s reaccreditation and stellar ISO 1 rating.

After Chief Lombardi spoke, the meeting was opened for public comment. There were more comments about the problems at the Edge 26 apartment complex, as well as a comment expressing the importance of keeping Edgewater’s taxes low.

Up next was the 1st reading of an amendment to the municipal code regarding the size of Edgewater’s sidewalks, which passed unanimously. The meeting moved on to a public hearing to amend some details for the redevelopment of Edgewater Inn by the new owners. A few small changes to an already approved plan for a patio and fence were submitted and needed Council approval to move forward. The Council voted unanimously to approve.

Next on the agenda was a short update from Edgewater’s Sustainability Coordinator about a new Urban Forestry contract in which Edgewater’s canopy needs will be studied and recommendations made.

The Council Members and Mayor wrapped up the meeting for the evening with the usual comments. The Edgewater City Council meets at 6:30 every other Tuesday at the Edgewater Civic Center. The next meeting is scheduled for March 21st.
