Edgewater Area School Principals Named for 2024-2025 School Year

The 2024-2025 school year will bring two familiar faces to lead Lumberg Elementary School and Jefferson Junior/Senior High School. Janace Fischer, a former social worker at Lumberg in the early 2000s, was chosen to be the next principal at Lumberg Elementary School. Current interim principal at Jefferson Junior/Senior High School, Ricardo Esparza, was chosen to be continue as principal at Jefferson.

Community Superintendent Mindi Feir wrote the following to Lumberg families announcing Janace’s appointment as principal:

Janace will join our school community as Lumberg’s principal for the 2024-2025 school year. Janace greatly impressed the hiring committee with her deep commitment to students, staff, and families. Her extensive experience as a dedicated leader for all students, positive and caring demeanor, and advocacy for the Dual Language program made her a wonderful choice for our school.

Janace brings a strong professional background to Lumberg Elementary. She is currently the Assistant Director of Family and Community Partnerships in Jeffco. Before that, she served as the principal at Wilmore Davis Elementary for 6 years and prior to that she was the principal at Pleasant View Elementary for 6 years. In addition, Janace worked at Lumberg years ago as a social worker and assistant principal. She is a dedicated, knowledgeable, and a whole-child leader who seeks to provide learning environments that are rigorous, welcoming, and joyful. Janace is excited to continue the great work and traditions of Lumberg.

Feir also wrote to Jefferson families about Ricardo’s continuing role as Jefferson’s principal:

Ricardo’s first-hand experience collaborating with Jefferson teachers, partnering with families, and working to improve systems and structures at Jefferson, were key factors in the decision to hire him in this continuing role. Ricardo’s time as the interim principal has demonstrated his passion and ability to lead our school moving forward.

Prior to his interim appointment, Mr. Esparza served as an elementary principal in Oregon and a High School principal in Washington. He is passionate about the work Jefferson is committed to and the collaborative culture that focuses on success for all. He believes in providing an educational experience that serves the whole child and fosters pathways to meaningful career exploration for each student. With over three decades of experience in education across diverse contexts, Mr. Esparza brings a wealth of insight and expertise to our school community.

Current Lumberg Principal Lindsay Petty announced earlier this winter that she would be stepping down from her role as principal at the end of this school year. Petty has served as principal at Lumberg since July 2021. Marcella D’Orazio is continuing in her role as principal at Edgewater Elementary School.
